About

Dr. Emerson is a licensed psychologist with more than 30 years of experience as a therapist.  She earned her Ph.D. from Utah State University, where she completed research on Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for Body Image Dissatisfaction.  Dr. Emerson completed her psychology residency at the Medical College of Georgia and the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center Consortium in Augusta, Georgia, where she worked in the Eating Disorders Program. She has also held faculty positions in the Georgia Southern University Psychology Department, and in the Professional Counseling Master’s Program at South University.  Dr. Emerson was the Assistant Director for Clinical Services at the Georgia Southern Counseling and Career Development Center for 10 years prior to moving to private practice in 2006.

Today, Dr. Emerson maintains a general mental health practice, treating adolescents and adults ages 13 – 70.  Her expertise broadly spans individual, group, couples and family therapy. Known for working with both adolescents and young adults, her work also includes gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered clients.
